Wayne Marion Horn

December 29, 1924 — January 18, 2016

Wayne Marion Horn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend went to be with our Lord on Monday, January 18, 2016. Wayne was born in Waltreak, Arkansas, on December 29, 1924, and was 91. Wayne lived his entire life in the Scott County, Arkansas area.

After serving proudly in the Army during World War II, he moved back to Waldron and first worked at Blasingame's Dry Goods. He began his proud, long-term career with Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative in 1952 and continued until his retirement in 1985. Following retirement, he continued to provide electrical help to those in need, sometimes even charging a few dollars for the materials. He was an active member of the Waldron Church of the Nazarene where, throughout the years, he served on the Board of Trustees and, with his love of music, led the choir and congregational singing. It can be said with confidence that there are likely few people in Scott County to whom Wayne did not give of his time, talents or every vegetable grown in his garden. Wayne grew many items in his acres of garden but the reviews on his corn, peas and watermelons were unsurpassed.

Wayne was a blessing and joy to everyone he met. He was a friend, helper and encouraged all he encountered. Wayne loved the outdoors including hunting and fishing. In his farming operations, he raised cattle, horses, catfish and provided anything the grandkids wanted. He loved road trips, flying to adventuresome places and riding his four-wheeler. In his retirement years, he honed his domino skills and defeated many aspiring champions. He was a true Razorback fan and coached from his stadium seat or living room recliner. He knew no strangers and believed giving to others was a way of reflecting the love and grace of Jesus Christ in his heart and life. His greatest enjoyment and pride was his family.

Wayne Horn is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ethel (Hutchens) Horn; his children and their spouses Ruth and Gary Karraker of Edmond, OK, Mike and Luann Horn of Fayetteville, AR, Phil and Leigh Horn of Ft. Smith, AR, and Trish (Horn) and Roger Farrell of Edmond, OK; grandchildren: Lincoln, Eric (and wife, Lora), Heath, Tanner, Sam, Evan, Nathanael, Kurstin, Lily, Cameron, Collin and Carrie; and great-grandsons Eli and Oliver. He is survived by one sister, Virginia Sizemore, of Conway, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Wesley and Kimberly, and siblings Bevie Watson, Vessie Owens, Ule Horn and Betty Blume.
