Virginia Powell

August 14, 1944 — April 21, 2013

Virginia Elizabeth (Ray) Powell of Waldron, Arkansas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 21, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born August 15, 1944 to George Ray and Virgie Henry Ray in Waldron, Arkansas. Virginia was 68 years, 8 months and 6 days old. Virginia became a member of the Harmony Freewill Baptist Church at the age of nine; where she has served her church faithfully for 59 years. She served as Sunday School Teacher and Officer of the Ladies Auxiliary as well as Church Pianist for many years. Virginia lived her life as a testimony to her strong Faith and Love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In August of 1964, Virginia married the love of her life, L.D. Powell, at the young age of 19. The very next day she celebrated her 20th birthday. L. D. and Virginia had a cattle and poultry farm and she spent much of her time cooking, all the while she was receiving great joy from sharing her talents, recipes and knowledge with family and friends. Virginia worked for a great number of years for the Waldron Livestock Auction doing many different tasks in the office. She loved life and lived it to the fullest each day. Virginia was a people person and enjoyed everyone, especially family. However, Virginia was most excited to have the opportunity to have twin grandsons. She treasured them with her whole heart and couldn?t wait to follow them to their next sporting event, school function or just whatever they were involved in, even to the deer woods. The memories made with her family were those she kept closest to her heart. Virginia leaves behind to cherish her memory, the love of her life, her husband of 48 years, L.D. of the home, one son, Bradley Powell of Springdale, Arkansas. She will forever be missed by two grandsons, Dilan Powell and Devin Powell both of Waldron, Arkansas. Virginia is also survived by three brothers, George W. Ray Jr., of Grand Prairie, Texas, W.D. Ray and wife Billie of Waldron, Arkansas, John Ray and wife Susan of Waldron, Arkansas. Aunt Gingie will also be missed by five nieces and a nephew, Diane Morris of Arlington, Texas, Beverly Deutschman of Mansfield, Texas, Shannen Ray of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Jonette Duke of Booneville, Arkansas, Simone Ray of Waldron, Arkansas and David Ray and wife Denise of Grand Prairie, Texas; as well as four great-nieces: Megan Kreiter, Emily Deutschman, Darby Ray, Shelbie Duke and four great nephews: Alec Deutschman, Zachery Morris, and Gage Morris. Virginia will be missed by all who knew her and the many whose lives she touched, including her Harmony Freewill Baptist Church Family a number of other friends and loved ones. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, George and Virgie Ray, one daughter, Shelly Annette Powell, one nephew, John Russell Ray, and one sister in law, Sylvia Ray. Virginia?s life celebration will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Harmony Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. David Williams and Rev. Rickey Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in the Duncan Cemetery in Waldron, Arkansas. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron, Arkansas. Virginia?s pallbearers will be Eddie Swisher, A.G. Morrison, Billy Joe Hale, Jerry Beaty, Bill Lovett and Terry Nix. Honorary pallbearers will be the Harmony Freewill Baptist Ladies Auxiliary and Muddy Creek Deer Camp. Virginia?s visitation will be Tuesday, April 23, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas where Virginia?s family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
