Verlia Dean Woodard, 80, of Waldron, Arkansas passed from this life Thursday, July 23, 2009 in a Fort Smith, Arkansas hospital.
Verlia was born December 24, 1928 at Waldron the second daughter to the late Lester Newberry and Gertie (Rhyne) Newberry. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove #3 Baptist Church, retired from the Scott County Library after 18 years. She loved embroidery, quilting, and gardening.
Verlia is survived by two daughters, Pat Hopson and husband Deryl of Winnsboro, Texas, Cathy Nichols of the home; two sons, Gary Woodard of Charleston, Arkansas, Vernon (Bim) Woodard of Waldron, Arkansas; one grandson of the home, Nathan Brown; 12 grandchildren;16 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by seven sisters, Wanda Gray of Waldron, Arkansas, Ima Jean Hunt of Waldron, Arkansas, Mary Ann Sanders of Waldron, Arkansas, Shirley Ammons of Waldron, Arkansas, Edna Maxell of Waldron, Arkansas, Lynda Sue Bates of Waldron, Arkansas, Alice Friend of Greenwood, Arkansas; one brother, Benny Newberry of Waldron, Arkansas.
She is preceded in death by her husband Vernon Woodard; a grandson, Micheal Nichols, a great grandson, Trevor Brown, and a sister, Fern Oliver.
Verlia?s funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Pleasant Grove #3 Cemetery near Waldron, Arkansas. Arrangements are being entrusted to Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron.
Verlia's pallbearers will be, Gary Lee Woodard, Josh Brewton, Shawn Woodard, Steven Woodard, Billy Sanders, and Mark Oliver.
Visitation will be 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Verlia?s family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday.
