Vera Smith Caffey, 82, of Nola, Arkansas formerly of Abilene, Texas passed from this life Tuesday, August 18, 2009 in a Waldron nursing home.
Vera was born April 25, 1927 in Brownsville, Texas to the late John Banks Williams and Mattie Belle (Offil) Williams. She was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas, a homemaker, and was self employed with her late husband, Harley Smith as distributors for White?s Electronics in Abilene, Texas.
She married her childhood sweetheart May 23, 1944 in Petty, Texas. Later on, after the death of her husband Harley, she married the late H. D. Caffey of Abilene, Texas.
Her greatest joys in life were her children and family. She loved the Lord with all her heart and taught her children to have faith in God and always walk in the steps of Jesus. She was a shining example of how to live life to the fullest with music, singing, dancing, and laughter.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Harley Smith, a son Roy Lynn Smith, six sisters and two brothers, three granddaughters , one grandson, and one son-in-love, Dewey (Buster) Hines.
Vera was a precious and loving mother to two daughters, Judy Hines of Nola, Arkansas and Tonya Smith and son-in-love, Terry of Abilene, Texas.
She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She will be remembered by many loved ones and friends.
Vera?s going home celebration will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Parks Cemetery at Nola, Arkansas with Rev. Mike Shaddon, officiating, with interment in the Parks Cemetery at Nola. Arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas.
Vera?s pallbearers will be her grandsons Todd Blackburn and Taylor Smith, her great grandsons, Wesley, Rusty, Justin Brothers, Blake Hines, and honorary, Brody Hines.
Her visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2009 at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
