Waldron native Steven Maurice Ward, age 54 years and two weeks, died Sunday night at his family?s homeplace in Waldron after a four-month battle with cancer. He was attended by his brothers and his mother at the time of his death. Steve was born in Houston, Texas, on March 30, 1959. He most recently lived in the Ferndale community near Little Rock. He was a 1981 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, with a minor in History. He was a member of the Rho Sigma men?s social club. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Marion Ward of Waldron; his brother Mark Ward and sister-in-law Karen, also of Waldron; his brother Philip Ward and sister-in-law Cheryl of Fayetteville, his grandmother, Mrs. Lorene May of Waldron, four nephews and two nieces. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Johnie Ward of Waldron, in May 2012. Steve's life celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Waldron, Arkansas. Arrangements and cremation are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron, Arkansas. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute in Little Rock, Gideon International, or to your local church.
