Marjorie Bess Austin Huie ("Miss Margie") was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 23, 1923. Marjorie died on December 30,2010 after living in Waldron, Arkansas for 83 years. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe R. Huie, one son, Joe Kelley Huie and one daughter, Glenda Lea Huie. She is survived by one son, Richard E. "Dick" Huie of Springdale and one daughter, Alcinda "Cindy" L. Franklin of Waldron. Her 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grand children, and 6 great-grand children honor her life. In the early 1960's, Marjorie was selected as the first Headstart Director for Scott County. She ended her teaching career as teacher/owner of Huie's Play and Learn, a preschool for many local children. Marjorie joined the Waldron United Methodist Church at the age of six and was a faithful member until death. She served as President of the Waldron United Methodist Women for many years, and taught Sunday School for every age level during her lifetime. As an artist, Marjorie enjoyed traveling throughout the Southwest United States studying and painting with other oil painters. Her paintings are enjoyed by family and friends throughout the country. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of choice may be made in honor of Marjorie Huie. Visitation will be held at the home of Roy and Cindy Franklin in Waldron, Arkansas. A committal service will be held at Duncan Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 1, 2011. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waldron United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being entrusted to Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron.
