On February 12, 1919 James Allen Hill and Nancy Ann (Phillips) Hill brought a blessing into this world. That blessing was Lola Mae (Hill) Mahaffey. Lola Mae, also known by everyone as Granny Mahaffey, was raised alongside her brothers and sister: Odes Recter Hill, Lawnie Elmer Hill, Ezra Thurman Hill, Floyd Russel Hill, and Alice (Hill) Bingham. Granny Mahaffey?s parents and all her siblings preceded her in death, with the exception of Ezra Hill. Granny?s childhood marks the beginning of a touching, heartwarming and loving story, this story was known as her life. At the age of 21, Granny Mahaffey married the love of her life, William Thomas Mahaffey which marked the start of a new chapter in her life. She was blessed with four hardworking boys: Johnny Mahaffey, James Mahaffey, Lowell Mahaffey, and William ?Billy? Mahaffey and three extraordinary girls: Wilma (Mahaffey) Buttler, Elaine Mahaffey, and Florain (Mahaffey) Valintine. James Hill, Johnny Mahaffey, one grandson, and one great grandson preceded her in death. Through her children she was blessed with many grandkids: Mary Ann Robinson, Angela Barnes, Linda McCleland, Brenda Denny, Lisa Long, Latrina Mahaffey, Ricky Mahaffey, Dennis Butler, Sandra McEntire, Sheila Meredith, and Melissa Parish. Through her grandchildren she was blessed with many great-grandchildren: Claude Burch, Bobby Jo Cross, Leslie Idleman, Misty Reitenbaugh Greenlee, Sadonna Diaz, Ricky Schmitt, Amanda Schmitt, Amy Schmitt, Martin Jr. Myers, Clarissa McCleland, Celeste Ingle, Tyler Ingle, Brittney Mahaffey, Steven Vongphakdy, Asia Vongphakdy, Jedidiah Carter, Jackie Ingle, Brandon Mahaffey, Maverick McEntire, Clayton McEntire, Ethan Meredith, Courtney Parish, Jenna Parish, and Emily Parish. Granny Mahaffey was the mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother of 39 individuals. Granny always believed she was put on this earth to take care of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids and even the neighborhood children! She cared so much for her children that she was known as the greatest mother to grave this earth. This wasn?t just handed to her, she EARNED it. When granny lived in Burr Missouri, the place she decided to settle in after traveling, the neighborhood children would come to eat her yummy pies. Anyone who knew granny knew how talented of a story teller she was. She could sit and entertain us for hours telling us about her astonishing adventures, hardships and events through; and in the 93 years she lived through a lot. She lived through the Roaring Twenties, Great Depression, the aftermath of the Titanic, The Dustbowl, the signing of the Versailles Treaty which ended WWI, WWII, The Bombing of Pearl Harbor, The Vietnam War, The Cold War, and September 11. Granny was a very inspiring and strong Christian. We remember her staying up late or waking up on the nights she couldn?t sleep and praying for the entire family, all her friends, and anyone who needed it. She was a very active member of the Friendship Pentecostal Church of God. Many people may remember that Granny walked ten miles to raise money for the church around her mid sixties. She was even awarded a trophy with a little turtle on top. In the last chapter of Granny?s life she resided in Waldron, Arkansas; where she blessed it with her presence and the memories she left us. We appreciate all the help of Brooke from The Area Agency on Aging, and also the care given to Granny by Don and Peggy. And a Big Thanks from the family to Dr. Bennett. Granny lived from February 12, 1919 to June 24, 2012. Her life was beautifully written and the ending sentence of her story was God calling her back to him. Granny Mahaffey was and is still loved by all. We will always remember her story in our hearts and mind. We love you Granny Mahaffey.
