Leon Abbott of Bates, Arkansas went to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, September 4th in Bates, Arkansas surrounded by his loving family. Leon was born October 31, 1940 to Logan Abbott and Myrtle Tull Abbott in Oliver, Arkansas. Leon was 75 years, 10 months and 4 days old.
Leon was a logger by trade. He spent many days outside. This would lead to his love of hunting and fishing. Leon enjoyed going to the Bates Store to drink coffee and visit. He would talk to and visit with everyone that came in. Leon loved his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Spending time together and making everlasting memories.
Leon leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 49 years, Beverly Abbott of the home, three children: Charlie Abbott and wife Darla, Wesley Abbott and wife Brenda and Sarah Rice and husband Paul. Papa Lon will forever remain in the hearts of his grandchildren: Todd Abbott, Kendall Fowler and husband Josh, Jala Abbott, Zack Statam, Harleigh Rice and Emmett Rice and one great grandchild, Lane Fowler. Leon is also survived by his sisters: Robbie Westfall, Barbara Maxwell, Wanda McDaniel and Ethel McDaniel. Leon will be missed by all that knew him and the many whose lives he impacted, including a host of nieces, nephews, friends, hunting buddies, neighbors and loved ones.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Logan and Myrtle Abbott and two sisters.
Leon's life celebration will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Bates Baptist Church with Rev. James Self and Bro. Joe Hayden Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Point Cemetery in Hon, Arkansas. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas.
Leon's pallbearers will be Todd Abbott, Josh Fowler, Paul Rice, Joe Paul Stafford Zack Statam and Clint Johnston. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Cagle, Bill Tull, Kenneth Nevills, Jr. Pickel, Gary Sanders and Henry Jr. "Bobo" McDaniel.
Leon's visitation will be Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home where Leon's family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
