Lt. Colonel John William Peterson Jr., passed from this life, Friday, May 4, 2012 in Frisco, Texas. Lt. Colonel Peterson was born September 16, 1922 to his parents John William Peterson Sr. and Virginia Travers (Lilley) Peterson in Baltimore, Maryland. John was 89 years, 7 months and 18 days old.

Lt. Colonel Peterson joined the Army Air cadets in World War II. He then flew supply missions over the ?Hump? in the Indian-Burmese theatre of war. After the war, Colonel Peterson went to Georgia Tech where he received both his Bachelor?s and Master?s Degree. After graduating from Georgia Tech; Colonel Peterson was called back to service during the Korean War as a Jet Fighter Instructor. After Korea, Colonel Peterson continued in the Army reserves until his retirement in 1971. Colonel Peterson also worked primarily as an investigator; first for the National Labor Board and then for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission where he also served as Deputy District Director. Colonel Peterson also practiced law for a short while in the Montgomery County area of Arkansas.

Lt. Colonel Peterson leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Peggy; one daughter, Andrea Tangarife and husband Able, one son, James Randolph Peterson and wife Judy; one step daughter, Alison Lee Neal, one step son, William Russell Neal; and one sister, Ann Somers. Lt. Colonel Peterson will also be greatly missed by his granddaughters, Marisa Jasmine Tangarife and Melissa Peterson and two great grandchildren, four nieces and three step nephews.

Lt. Colonel John Peterson?s Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2012 at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron, Arkansas.
