Darrell Smalling

Darrell Lloyd Smalling of Cedar Creek, Arkansas went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in Fort Smith, Arkansas surrounded by his loving family. Darrell was born November 18, 1933 in Mauldin, Arkansas to Virgil Smalling and Roxie L (Welch) Smalling. Darrell was 78 years and 8 months old. Darrell was a member of the Cedar Creek Community Church in Cedar Creek, Arkansas.
Darrell lived and went to school in Forrester, Arkansas from 1933 until the town went out in 1953. At that time, he purchased one of the Forrester homes and moved to Cedar Creek, Arkansas. In 1962 he married the love of his life, Wanda Sue Hulsey of Mt. Ida, Arkansas. Together in Cedar Creek they raised their children and enjoyed their grandchildren. Darrell worked in various positions in the logging business for Big Pine until it burned in 1995 and then he worked for Tyson Foods until his retirement. Darrell loved to hunt, fish and work in his garden. However, the highlight of his life was his grandchildren and the laughter and good times he shared with them.
Darrell leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 50 years, Wanda of the home, two sons, Steve Smalling and wife Leane of Springdale, Arkansas and Kevin Smalling and wife Maria of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Papaw will forever be missed by his grandchildren: Tyler Smalling of Lakenheath, England Air Force Base, Lance Smalling of Springdale, Arkansas, Olivia Smalling of Springdale, Arkansas and Raquel Smalling of Hot Springs, Arkansas and great granddaughter Lily Smalling of Poteau, Oklahoma. Darrell is also survived by one sister Floye Laird of Cedar Creek, Arkansas and brothers, W.G. Smalling of Waldron, Arkansas and Bill Smalling of Lavaca, Arkansas. Darrell will be missed by his extended family of many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Smalling and Roxie (Welch) Smalling, infant daughter, Dewonna Sue Smalling, grandson Seth Daniel Smalling, grandson, Benjamin Mason Smalling and brother, J.V. Smalling.
Darrell?s life celebration will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron, Arkansas with Chad Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cedar Creek Cemetery in Cedar Creek, Arkansas. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron, Arkansas.
Darrell?s pallbearers will be Jim Laird, Tim Miller, Jimmy Darrell Hulsey, Greg Dixon, Lonnie Beggs, Michael Beggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Blackwell, Dewayne Watkins and Kelly Jack McCafferty.
Darrell?s visitation will be Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas. Darrell?s family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
