Betty Jewel Bishop

August 19, 1935 — December 8, 2015

Betty Jewell Bishop of Hobbs, New Mexico, entered into the presence of her Heavenly Father on December 8,2015. Betty was born August 19, 1935 to Ernest Self and Flora (Slater) Self in Waldron, Arkansas. Betty was 80 years, 3 months and 19 days old.

In her younger years, Betty loved to needlepoint. As the years went by, this lead to her enjoyment of quilting and sewing. She also enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. She absolutely treasured the family gatherings and getting to prepare her amazing dishes for all to enjoy. When she had the opportunity, Betty also enjoyed a fun filled trip to the casino.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory, four sons: Jerry McCurter and Rita of Hobbs, New Mexico, Earnest McCurter of Missouri, Tim McCurter and Lottie of Waldron, Arkansas, Kevin McCurter and Shelly of Hobbs, New Mexico, three daughters: Kathy Gwin and Roger of Pocola, Oklahoma, Ellen Stafford and Steve of Granbury, Texas and Julie Hargis of Boles Arkansas. Sisters Lou Garrett of Colorado Springs, Texas, Pat Hunt and Dearl of Greenwood, Arkansas and Irene Callahan of Greenwood, Arkansas. Betty will be missed and remain in the hearts of her 27 grandkids, 48 great grandkids, 6 great great grandkids as well as a lot of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Betty was proceed in death by her husband Marvin Bishop, her parents Ernest and Flora Self, eldest daughter Barbara Yandell McCarty, one son Thomas McCurter and one great grandson Brenden Golson.

Betty's life celebration will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday December 12, at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron, Arkansas. Interment will follow at the Friendship Cemetery near Waldron, Arkansas.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Brandon Hargis, Jason Hargis, Travis McCurter, Jacob Stafford, Jonathan McCurter, Charlie McCurter, Matt Gwin, Justin McCurter, Bill McCurter, Branson Golson and Kenneth Highfill.

Betty's visitation will be Friday December 11, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home.
