Bernice Thornton, 92, passed from this life on Sunday, December 29, 2013, in Cedar Creek, Arkansas. Bernice was born December 16, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri to Roy Gilbert Parker and Mary (Jones) Parker. She had one younger brother and sister, four older brothers, and one twin sister, Gladys Wiggins (all deceased). She was a homemaker.
In 1941, she married her childhood sweetheart, Lotus Moody (Buster) Thornton. Buster and "Red", as she was affectionately known, were happily married until Buster passed in 1985. After his death, Bernice moved to Arkansas where she lived with her daughter, Mary, and son-in-law, the late Phil Stinson.
Bernice was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves behind to cherish her memory three children, Roy Thornton of Waldron, Arkansas; Mary Stinson of Cedar Creek, Arkansas; Larry Thornton and daughter-in-law Judy Thornton of Independence, Missouri. "Nanny" will be forever missed by her three grandchildren, Sherry Stinson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Bernie Stinson of Cedar Creek, Arkansas; and Brandy Wiedenmann of Raytown, Missouri. She will also be missed by her four great grandchildren, Bronson Stinson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Benjamin Stinson of Hayworth, Oklahoma; and Sydney and Riley Wiedenmann of Raytown, Missouri. Bernice will be missed by all that knew her and the many whose lives were impacted by her including a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held January 2, 2014 at 10 a.m. in Kansas City, Missouri. Interment is at Park Lawn Memorial Cemetery also in Kansas City, Missouri. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron, Arkansas.
Bernice's pallbearers will be Mike Kirkendall, Bob Hartford, David Frye, Denny Wiedenmann, Bronson Stinson, and John Hammons.
