Athel Staggs, 78, of Parks, AR. passed away Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 at a Fort Smith, AR. hospital.
Athel was born in Beaucamp, AR on December 29, 1930, the son of the late John W. and Addie M. (Aynes) Staggs.
He attended Keener Freewill Baptist Church.
He was a retired furniture factory worker and drove the senior citizens bus. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.
Athel is survived by his wife of 17 years Lois of the home; a daughter, Stepheani Smith and husband Craig of Tulsa, OK., a son, Doug Staggs and wife Lisa of Vacaville, CA., a step daughter, Tessa Sweeny and husband Larry of Altoona, PA., a step son, David Adaway and wife Angie of Waldron, AR.
He is also survived by 1 grandson, Kolton Craig Smith of Tulsa, OK.; two step-grandsons, Anthony Rose of Boles, AR., Seth Preston of Waldron, AR.; one step-granddaughter, Ashley Preston of Waldron, AR.
Athel is also survived by two sisters, Dora Mooney of Mena, AR., Phyllis Nelson of Waldron, AR. three brothers, Odell (Pat) Staggs of Waldron, AR., Danny (Sandy) Staggs of Waldron, AR., Harrell (Betty) Staggs of Waldron, AR., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of their children, Georgeanna Staggs; two brothers, Arnold Staggs and Dee Staggs; two sisters, Doris Keeling and Charlene Janway.
Athel?s funeral service will be at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 7th, with Rev. J. A. Hunnicutt and Rev. Jack Smith officiating with interment in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, AR.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Staggs, Dan Staggs, Terry Staggs, John Nelson, Floyd Rose, David Adaway
Honorary pallbearers will be member of the Keener Freewill Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 5, from5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Friday, February 6, 2009 from 8:00 A. M. to 9:00 P.M. and Saturday, February 7, 2009 from 8:00 A.M. to the funeral hour at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m..
