Betty Jane Smith

August 8, 1931 — May 8, 2016

Betty Jane Smith of Booth, Arkansas went to be with her Lord on May 8, 2016 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born September 8, 1931 in Elm Park to Lewis Thomas and Rose Ora (Taylor) Metcalf. Betty was 84 years and 9 months old.

Betty began and ended her life in the Booth Community. She was known for many things but none more than the love she had for the Lord and her family. Betty had an unwavering faith in God and loved to share it with everyone she met. She was a member of Packsaddle Church where she served many roles, but none more important to her than that of Sunday School teacher. She was an avid gardener who was known for her beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables that were enjoyed by many over the years. She was also a wonderful cook who loved to prepare meals for her family and friends. Her Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners will always be remembered by her family each holiday season. Although she will be sorely missed, her memory will be carried on by her family, friends, and all those she has touched throughout her life.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving children: Debra (Smith) Overton and husband Ed of Mansfield, Arkansas and David Smith and wife Annette of Mansfield, Arkansas. She is also survived by her sweet, precious grandchildren, Whit Overton and wife Danielle of Mansfield, Arkansas, Darren Overton and wife Amber of Alma, Arkansas, Lauren (Smith) Toal and husband Nick of Conway, Arkansas and Evan Smith of Mansfield, Arkansas and one soon to be great-grandson Coleman Overton. Also two sisters: Mary Ann Knox of Stockton, California, and Joyce Hattabaugh of Elm Park, Arkansas and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Billy Smith; her parents, Lewis Thomas and Rose Ora (Taylor) Metcalf, 4 brothers: Earnest, Walter, Glen, and Ted Metcalf and 3 sisters: Evelyn Williams, Ruth Williams, and Nell Scott.
