Early on the morning of June 10, 2018, the world lost a wonderful man, Ansel Lee Phelan Sr. of Waldron, Arkansas. Ansel was born March 24, 1927 to Jay Phelan nd Phearby (Wynn) Phelan in Parnell, Texas. He was 91 years old. Ansel was a member of Denton Baptist Church near Waldron, Arkansas.
Ansel was a hard working husband and father. He worked in the oil field for many years and then he eventually retired from the U.S. Forest Service. He enjoyed sports of all kinds. He especially enjoyed watching the Arkansas Razorbacks, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Ansel loved his family and looked forward to spending time with them.
Ansel leaves behind to cherish his memory, four children: Debra Humphreys of Waldron, Arkansas, Cindy Cato of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Ronnah Johnson and husband Harold of Waldron, Arkansas and Ansel Lee Phelan Jr. (Butch) and wife Tammy of Poteau, Oklahoma. Ansel is also survived by three brothers, Carl Phelan and wife Jackie, Cleatus Phelan and wife Inez and Harold Phelan and wife Marilyn all of Texas. Grandpa will forever remain in the hearts of his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, and nephews. Ansel will be missed by all that knew him and the many whose lives he impacted.
Ansel was preceded in death by his loving wife Erma (Morris) Phelan, his parents, Jay and Phearby, one sister, Grace Dunning and one brother, Troy Phelan.
Ansel's memorial life celebration will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Denton Church near Waldron, Arkansas with Rev. Clyde Traylor officiating. Arrangements and cremation are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron, Arkansas.
